8th Annual Homebrew Competition Results

Blacksburg, Virginia, October 14, 2016The 8th annual Blacksburg Brew Do Homebrew Competition drew 32 entries in four categories. The competition, sponsored by River Company Brewery, is unique in the New River Valley and was organized in conjunction with Blacksburg Brew Do, a craft beer festival that took place on October 8th at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.

 

The four categories that were judged were light, amber, dark and specialty. Homebrewers were allowed to submit up to three entries and each was judged by a panel of craft brew experts: Evan Graham, Right Mind Brewing; Huck from Huck’s Beer Buzz; Sean O’Keefe, Virginia Tech and Jeff Owens, Vintage Cellar.

 

The winners in each category had their entries judged a final time to determine “Best of Show.” Ryan Mioduski & Evan Frazier with Duping Delight, a golden stout, was determined the winner. They won the right to brew and serve their winning beer at River Company Brewery as a seasonal selection.

Light

Amber

2nd Place: Jason Cromer, “My Old Kentucky Home(brew)” (Historical-Kentucky Common)

3rd Place: Robert Roux, “Unspeakable Sizzle” (American Strong Ale)

 

Dark

2nd Place: David & Kelli Wheeler, “London Porter” (English Porter)

3rd Place: Rodger Thurlow, “Tropical Thunder” (Porter)
